After a nearly two year wait, Apple has finally taken the wrappings off its next Mac Pro desktop.
The new “Cheese Grater” design promises massive performance increases over the six year old “Trash Can” model with up to 1.5TB of ECC RAM and up to 28 cores in the new Xeon W processor.
For video and graphics professionals, the new Mac Pro can be configured with two AMD Radeon Pro Vega II Duo graphics cards and a new Apple Afterburner ProRes RAW hardware accelerator that can decode three streams of 8K ProRes RAW video and twelve streams of 4K ProRes RAW video in real time.
BlackMagic Design, Avid, and others have signed on to support the new hardware.
The new Mac Pro will be available this fall, with a starting price of $5999.
