Avid Error: Could not connect to the Media Indexer. Verify the health of the Media Indexer service.

If when using Avid 8 or Avid 7 for the first time, you are prompted with the error:

Could not connect to the Media Indexer. Verify the health of the Media Indexer service.

All media may appear to be offline inside the project. Your Avid has been activated as an Avid Interplay License. This can happen with a Trialversion of Avid 8.

To correct the issue:

  1. Launch Avid Media Composer and open a project, selecting “Continue” at any and all prompts.
  2. Open up the Avid Console from the Tools menu.
  3. In the console, type:
workgroupoverride ON
  1. Press Return/Enter
  2. Exit Avid and restart it.

Avid Media Composer should now start normally and you should be able to access your media.
